We are excited to announce that Spending Plan is now live on the Money Dashboard Neon web app! Watch this space as it will be available on mobile before you know it!
How can Spending Plan help you achieve your money goals?
Spending on the things you really need and controlling the temptation to splurge on the things you could do without, is key to reaching your money goals. Spending Plan is designed to help you get in control so you can save more and spend on the things that truly matter to you.
Spending Plan is a super simple but highly effective budgeting methodology which is designed to easily fit within your life and help you with your day-to-day spending. Budgeting and spending with Spending Plan is about confidence, not restriction!
The Spending Plan approach
Our mission is to help you master your money so you can reach your financial goals, whether that is saving for a house deposit, getting out of debt or simply keeping track of your spending.
From 10 years of experience we’ve established three principles which are incorporated into the Spending Plan feature, as well as the wider Money Dashboard app.
- Visibility over your finances so you know exactly where your money is being spent
- Control to give you the confidence to spend on the things that mean the most to you
- Progress, enabling you to reach your financial goals
How it works in Practice
Spending Plan guides you through the process of controlling and monitoring your spending.
The first step is to connect the bank accounts where you receive your salary, pay your bills, and generally spend (grocery shopping etc.). We then analyse all your transactions to identify your income and bill payments. This gives you a simple view on how much you have left to spend after your upcoming bills are deducted.
Through the Spending Plan you can then set aside money which you expect to spend until your next payday. Be sure to include the fun things such as going to restaurants, as well as living costs such as grocery shopping! Any money you plan to save should also be included in the Spending Plan.
The Spending Plan methodology is fully flexible so you can budget for every £1 or group your spending into larger budgets such as setting aside £200 on ‘Fun Stuff’ or £100 on ‘Pub Money’. Everyone has the freedom to spend on the things that mean the most to them. Any money which you’ve not budgeted for is categorised as Left to Spend.
We use a simple but effective formula:
Account Balance + Upcoming Income - Scheduled Bill Payments - Budgets = Left to spend
Let us do the maths for you! It only takes a few minutes to set up your Spending Plan.
