People looking for a new mortgage have been offered a sweetener to opt for Halifax with the promise of £500 towards their gas and electricity bill this winter.
Anyone taking a mortgage with the lender before November 5 will receive £500 towards energy costs.
First-time buyers, home-movers or people remortgaging are all eligible for the offer which applies to the group's entire mortgage range.
However, people must arrange their mortgage directly with Halifax, as they will not benefit if they take out their loan through a broker.
It is the first time the group has offered customers money towards their utility bills, although it has previously given new borrowers cash back or a contribution towards their council tax.
People must claim the money within six months of taking out a mortgage, and it will be paid directly to their energy supplier, after they have presented Halifax with a copy of their bill.
Stephen Noakes, commercial director of mortgages at Halifax, said: "There are numerous costs incurred with setting up or running a home and energy bills usually represent a significant chunk of households' monthly outgoing.
"Households will be able to save between four and six months' costs by using this offer."
