Last month, Money Dashboard has been presenting the open beta product at technology conferences in the UK and around Europe.
Money Dashboard takes security and privacy very seriously and it is at the core of everything we do.
Have you ever spent time getting your finances in order, tried to set a budget, then completely lost track of spending again? It’s a common problem, but one that is solved by Money Dashboard’s “Monthly Tracker”.
Your Monthly Tracker view helps you see how well you’re sticking to your budget each month. It compares what you plan to spend with what you are actually spending. So if you’ve deviated from your course, you can take immediate action to get back on track.
Once you’ve set your budgets with the Money Dashboard personal finance tool, your Monthly Tracker will automatically start monitoring your transactions to see if you’re sticking to your targets. Because all your bank and credit card transactions are tagged, the Monthly Tracker knows exactly which budget they should be allocated to.
At the beginning of each month your Monthly Tracker will show three things:
your predicted income for the month
what you have budgeted to spend or save
the amount of budget you still have left to spend.
Then, as the month progresses, your Monthly Tracker will keep an eye on how you are doing. If you overspend in one area, a Red warning deficit will appear immediately, so you’ll know to try to make savings elsewhere. You can also set up alerts, so you receive a text or email if you ever go into the red.
Any items that aren’t tagged will show as an overspend until you tag them correctly and they are allocated to the correct budget. If a transaction goes through where you didn’t have a budget to start with, this will show as an overspend too.
If something that you didn’t budget for does catch you unawares, your Monthly Tracker can show you the impact immediately. So, if you suddenly need two new tyres for your Mini or have to pay for a new filling at the dentist, your Monthly Tracker helps you see the impact this will have on your budget as a whole. Then you can decide what action to take.
Budgeting can be a fine balancing act so you might end up saving on some things and overspending on others. If that continues to happen in the same categories, then your Monthly Tracker is helping you see that it’s time to review your budgets and adjust them for the future.
The bar charts in the Monthly Tracker will always highlight the areas where you really need to find a way to cut back. This is particularly important if you haven’t managed to save any money over the month. Or, worse still, if you’ve spent more than your actual income and are building up a debt.
